Directorate of Information and Communication Technology
In order to implement the Vision 2021 announced by the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the government has given special importance to this sector and ensured technical assistance in the ubiquitous application and use of information and communication technology at the district, upazila and union levels; Information and communication technology facilities reaching the edge, infrastructure security provision; maintenance; implementation; Directorate of Information and Communication Technology was constituted on July 31, 2013 to ensure delivery of e-services to remote areas of the country by expanding quality control and skill enhancement of computer professionals.

Functional Purpose:
1) To create high speed electronics connectivity system to the lowest level of the country.
2) Creation of proper infrastructure for providing information and communication technology related services across the country.
3) Coordinating activities related to information and communication technology at the government and private levels.
4) Effective maintenance of information and communication technology related infrastructure for the purpose of providing uninterrupted service.
5) Creation of ICT services with the aim of creating skilled information and communication technology professionals at the government level.
6) Capacity building of trained manpower for fast changing technologies.
7) Expansion of information and communication technology knowledge at all levels of government and people.
8) Preparation of information and communication technology related laws, policies, guidelines and standardization.
9) Creating and maintaining interoperability in practical areas of ICT services and products.
10) Providing overall support in research, innovation and application of new technologies.
Functions:
1) Ensuring and coordinating the use and application of ICT at all levels of government.
2) Providing support, maintenance and support in creating appropriate infrastructure of ICT in all departments up to field level.
3) Recruitment, promotion, posting and transfer of professionally skilled manpower in government offices at all levels.
4) Technical and specialized knowledge transfer of information technology at all levels.
5) Formulation and implementation of policies for the development of equality of government institutions and manpower.
6) Formulation and implementation of policies for the development of equality of manpower related to information technology
7) Taking initiatives to provide services to the people in electronic manner up to the grass roots level and conducting information collection, distribution and research activities in this regard.
8) Ensuring requirements, quality and interoperability of equipment etc.
9) Providing research, development and assistance in assimilation of modern technology at all levels.
10) Providing proper status and safeguarding the interests of the officers/employees of the Directorate through proper assessment of merit, experience, qualifications.
